Pattom is a busy commercial as well as a residential area, 6 km from Thiruvananthapuram city. It is situated between Plamoodu and Kesavadasapuram on NH 47. Pattom is the birth place of Pattom A. Thanu Pillai, the first Prime Minister of Travancore-Cochin and the second chief minister of Kerala. Four major schools, including the Arya Central School, Kendriya Vidyalaya, Government Model Girls High School and St. Mary's School are located at Pattom.
